Why you can’t have a 5 step plan to grow your audience

I heard Glennon Doyle say this on an old podcast with Elizabeth Gilbert that I popped in my earbuds this morning as a comfort listen for the dog walk (does anyone else comfort listen to the same podcasts over and over, or is that just me?!)

Anyway, Liz was asking Glennon what she would say to anyone who wanted to know how they could grow a huge audience like Glennon has and did when she first started her blog, momastery.

This was her advice and it’s so, so true.

“You get a bigger audience by serving the one you have”.

There is no magic solution to widening your reach and growing your audience. And what many marketing coaches don’t want to tell you (because you don’t want to hear it) is that it’s as simple and as hard as that.

This is where it starts. Yes, you can make freebies and get people on your list, you can follow people on Instagram and hope they just follow you back.

But if you don’t show up, consistently and LOVE your audience and serve them, it will not grow. If you get people on your list or in your group and you do not serve them, they will leave. They will not invite others in and on.

And if you think that all sounds too hard and you’d rather someone just gave you a 5 step plan to reach 10k on insta or get more people on your list, then are you sure you are even that committed to doing what you do?

But if you really want a 5 step plan here goes;

  1. Show up
  2. Regularly
  3. Consistently
  4. Serve them
  5. Love them

There you go.
