50 things for 50 years

I was 50 on Friday! Getting older means getting better and we all need to remember that getting older is a privilege that not everyone gets to have.

Here are 50 things that I know to be true from my 50 spins around the sun.

You’ll never regret going on a walk.

You don’t have to keep every friend.

Everything is a response, even no response.

Less things are about you than you think.

You can set new goals any day of the year.

Not changing is as uncomfortable as changing.

Trust your gut, it’s almost always right. Possibly always.

You could always be kinder.

Learning to listen to the subtle signals in your body is a top tier life skill.

What other people think of you is none of your business

Embrace your feelings.

You’re not here to fix anyone and no one is here to fix you.

Listening is a hugely underrated skill. Learn to listen.

Not caring what anyone thinks of you is freedom.

Gratitude, observed daily, is key to a contented life.

Not every day needs to be a good day.

Working out the difference between what is and isn’t a priority for you is a game changer.

How you react to other people’s behaviour is your behaviour.

You don’t have to forgive.

Have small regular treats when you’re going through growth or a hard time.

Going to bed half an hour earlier than you think you should is ace.

You achieve little by being mean to yourself.

You don’t have to do things just because you are good at it.

You don’t have to be amazing, you just have to be good enough.

You don’t have to explain yourself.

You’ll often feel guilty putting yourself first -it’s  not a reason to not do it.

Success can be put down to the willingness to accept feeling uncomfortable, scared or vulnerable.

When you like yourself, nothing else matters.

Common sense isn’t that common

You don’t have to do all the things, just some of the things.

You’re allowed to stop doing something when it no longer appeals to you.

If you want to see where your limiting beliefs lie, when you catch yourself making a black & white statement ask yourself ‘is that really true?

The secret to a great morning is evening prep; clothes, breakfast, lunches, bags etc.

Words like ‘no’, ‘oh’ and ‘correct’ are complete sentences.

Nothing creates self awareness like a journaling habit.

It’s never too late to do anything. Just start, at any time in your life.

Being better off won’t suddenly make you mean or selfish, you can make money and be good.

There’s no right time to do anything so stop waiting for it.

There’s little joy in a fast paced life.

Someone else thinks  you light up a room when you walk into it.

No one actually enjoys perfection. Stop striving for it.

If you approach everything with the question ‘how can I make this easier?’ You won’t go wrong.

There’s no prize for being a martyr.

You are better than you think.

Experiences are always better than things.

Life  becomes more fulfilling when you find your true purpose.

Leaping outside of your comfort zone is a bad idea – just teeter over the edge!

Confidence and motivation are not just going to show up at your door one day – you don’t need either to start making changes.

The things that make your days and life feel better and your body and mind healthier cannot be bought in a shop.

You can’t solve the world’s problems but you can just do a little good, consistently every day.
